A.Obesity

Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in the body that presents a risk to human health.

Every individual should be conscious about their health and their body weight. Many diseases are caused by obesity i.e stroke and heart disease. Furthermore, Obesity is related to hypertension as well. So we people must be conscious about weight.

With the help of BMI, we can know whether we are underweight or overweight or obese.BMI(Body Mass Index ) measures how fit a person is by relating the amount of fat in the body. Its unit is kg/m^2 i.e kg per meter square.

To calculate BMI the following formula is used;

BMI=W/H^2 i.e your weight per square of your height ;

whereas

W=Your weight in Kg and H=Your height in meters.

Following are the reference points that tell you about underweight, overweight or obesity

1) If your BMI is less than 18.5 then we can consider you UNDERWEIGHT.

If your BMI is 18.5 to 24.9 then we can consider you are NORMAL

If your BMI is 25 to 29.9 then we can consider your weight is slightly more than your normal weight. This denotes your initial stage of fatness.

If your BMI is 30 or more than 30 then we can consider you overweight.

5 ) If your BMI is 30 to 34.9 then we can consider Obesity ( Class I )

If your BMI is 35 to 39.9 then we can consider Obesity (Class II)

7) If your BMI is 40 or more than 40 then we can consider Obesity (Class III)

Since Obesity is related to Hypertension i.e High Blood Pressure then we must know about high blood pressure.

B.Blood Pressure

For easy understanding, Blood pressure is the force created while pumping blood to different parts of the body by the heart.

i.e Blood pressure=Systolic/Diastolic

-Systolic pressure is a measure of pressure within the arteries while the heart beats.

-Diastolic pressure is a measure of pressure in the arteries while the heart rest between beats

Note: The normal Blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.

-The equipment used to measure blood pressure is a sphygmomanometer.

According to American Heart Association, Blood pressure can be understood in the following ways:

1) If the systolic pressure is less than 120 mmHg and diastolic pressure is less than 80mmHg then we can consider as NORMAL blood pressure

2) If the systolic pressure is 120 mmHg to 129 mmHg and diastolic is less than 80 mmHg then we can consider blood pressure a bit raised than normal.

If the systolic pressure is 130 - 139 mmHg and diastolic pressure is 80-89 mmHg then we can consider class I hypertension.

4) If th e systolic pressure is more or equal to 140mmHG and diastolic pressure is more than or equal to 90 mmHg then we can consider Class II hypertension.

5) If the systolic pressure is more than 180mmHG and diastolic is more than 120mmHG then we can consider class III hypertension. This phase is also called HYPERTENSIVE CRISIS. An emergency doctor visit is mandatory in this condition.

Note: Maintain your BMI and Blood pressure normal and be healthy.
